In the early years of the Republic, wolf images were printed on Turkish currency. The crescent tactic (or Turan/Turkic tactic), a strategy of encircling the enemy in a half-moon formation, was first used by the Turks after observing wolves. The Göktürks were the first state in history to bear the name "Turk."
